Tea Party Activist: Health Insurance Mandate Goes Too Far

By Staff|6/25/2012 2:08 PM

Following the announcement that the Supreme Court will not hand down their opinion on the constitutionality of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) until Thursday,?Jenny Beth Martin, the co-founder of Tea Party Patriots, told TRNS that she believes the ACA?s mandate for individuals to purchase insurance will result in the government having power to invade an individual?s rights well beyond the scope of health insurance in the future.

?If the government comes in and starts mandating what we must do and how we must act simply because we live and breathe, for no other reason, just because we live, then they can tell us what we can do with anything,? Martin said during a demonstration across from the Supreme Court. She explained that the implications of a government mandate means, ?they can tell us who we can live with, they can tell us how we live our lives, they can tell us how we live or die.?
