Apple launches new Smart Case for the iPad

Hidden among the chaos of Apple's Worldwide Developers Conference keynote and announcement of iOS 6, the company also started selling a new Smart Case accessory for the iPad today. The Smart Case is similar to the Smart Cover introduced with the iPad 2, but it also includes a polyurethane back that snaps in place over the iPad itself.

Where the Smart Cover only provides protection for the iPad's display and attaches to the tablet using magnets, the Smart Case provides full protection for the front and back of the iPad. Apple insists that the iPad will remain thin and light even with the Smart Case installed. The Smart Case features the same sleep and awake features and integrated stand for the iPad as the Smart Cover.

The Smart Case is compatible with the iPad 2 or the new iPad. It costs $49.99 and is available in six different color options.
